Raising awareness and promoting excellence in skin of color dermatology are central to the mission of the Skin of Color Society, so we are pleased to offer a wide array of online, free educational resources to SOCS members, medical colleagues, industry, media, and the general public. Over the past few years, we have developed a few different series of educational videos, featuring SOCS leaders on high-interest topics affecting individuals with skin of color, including: roundtables on various important skin and hair conditions, as well as short-form videos on hair loss in women of color: CCCA (Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia); hyperpigmentation; patient safety, and the use of hydroquinone in skin of color. Our roundtable discussions featuring SOCS experts cover:

  • Sun Protection and Skin Cancer Prevention in Melanin-Rich Skin;
  • External Signs of Internal Disease in Skin of Color;
  • Psoriasis in Skin of Color;
  • Hair and Scalp Disorders for Patients of Color

As May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to view and share the first above-mentioned roundtable on sun protection and skin cancer prevention, which features Seemal Desai, MD, FAAD, Maritza Perez, MD, FAAD, Cheryl Burgess, MD, FAAD and Dhaval Bhanusali, MD, FAAD. In an interesting and informative conversation, these SOCS experts dispel myths and clear up misconceptions about skin of color with regard to sun safety, skin cancer and skin diseases that are affected by chronic ultraviolet exposure. We invite you to share this video (and any others) with your patients and social media audiences to help raise awareness and promote better understanding of skin of color dermatologic health and well-being.  Happy viewing!
