We are so thrilled about the recent news from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), announcing the installation of its new Board of Directors, including four Skin of Color Society (SOCS) members!

SOCS Founder, Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD, will begin a one-year term as an officer in the role of AAD vice president. Joining the AAD Board of Directors as members serving four-year terms are: SOCS Past President Amy McMichael, MD, FAAD, SOCS board member Cheryl M. Burgess, MD, FAAD, and SOCS Member Murad Alam, MD, MSCI, MBA, FAAD.

Many SOCS leaders have remarked over the years that service to our Society— whether it’s as a committee member, chair or co-chair, board member or officer—has provided amazing experience in developing and honing leadership skills. So naturally, we are delighted that there is now such fantastic representation by four longtime, highly respected SOCS members now serving on the AAD Board of Directors.  In general, we are proud to see that so many SOCS members and leaders contribute to other dermatologic organizations in leadership roles, in addition to their important contributions to our Society.

On that note, we are very excited to let you know that our call for participation on SOCS committees is now open.  We have a range of interesting committees, in which we invite you to become involved, including:

  • Bylaws Committee
  • Development Committee
  • Finance Committee (NEW!)
  • Membership Committee
  • Mentorship Committee*
  • National and International Committee*
  • Patient Education Committee*
  • Research Committee
  • Scientific Committee
  • Technology and Media Committee*
  • Volunteer Committee (NEW!)
