SOCS NETWORKING & EDUCATIONAL SYMPOSIUM RECAP

A great crowd of medical students, dermatology residents, junior and senior faculty, and dermatologists in industry and private practice came together for the recent SOCS Networking and Educational Symposium in Chicago, preluding the American Academy of Dermatology’s Diversity Champion Workshop at the Association of Professors in Dermatology (APD) Annual Meeting. This dynamic networking event was co-hosted by Dr. Lynn McKinley-Grant, SOCS President, Dr. Stavonnie Patterson and Dr. Amit Pandya.

Many dedicated members of SOCS joined with students, residents, and APD attendees to socialize and remember the call for increased diversity in dermatology. The evening began with mingling and refreshments, followed by a warm Chicago welcome from local dermatologist, Dr. Stavonnie Patterson. Dr. Lynn McKinley-Grant then discussed SOCS as an organization—recalling the history, achievements and current activities of the Society.  Dr. Amit G. Pandya reviewed the lack of underrepresented minorities in dermatology, and the importance of diversity in the field.  He encouraged guests to continue current efforts and renew our commitment to improving diversity.  Full of laughter, conversation, old friends reconnecting and new friends becoming acquainted, this SOCS reception served as an ideal kick-off to the Diversity Champion Workshop the next day.

This recent event is part of the Skin of Color Society Networking & Educational Symposia series, which is made possible through the generous support of Pfizer. These well-attended and always-interesting events offer SOCS members and non-members alike fantastic networking and learning opportunities. Watch for news about future events by visiting:
